If you think I’m just selling lipstick, you’re not paying attention.

If you think I’m just selling lipstick, you’re not paying attention.

It’s time to come clean.

As I sit on the plane on the way back from Beautycounter’s Leadership Summit in Arizona I am feeling so inspired and passionate about sharing my story with as many people as possible.

When I tell people about Beautycounter, the most common responses I get are…

“Isn’t is just one of those MLM’s?”

“Oh, it’s just one of those pyramid schemes.”

I recently asked someone who has expressed concerns with her financial situation if she’d like to learn more about what I did.  She told me she wasn’t interested in me pitching my MLM to her. (Eye roll)

I thought to myself. “Enough.”

People need to be educated. I know it’s not their fault that they don’t know, but I’m here to let them know. We are NOT another MLM. We are not a pyramid scheme and we are not here to push products on people.

So what are we then and why are we different?

Just like our founder and CEO Gregg Renfrew, I’ve never been a product junkie and I’m not a beauty expert. She is the first to admit that. But what she and I are both passionate about is educating and ensuring everyone we meet knows what we know.

So what do I know???

  • I know that I struggled with infertility for years and so do many other women.
  • I know that certain ingredients in our personal care products are endocrine disrupters and carcinogens.
  • I know that 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lives in part due to environmental toxins.
  • I know that more and more children are being born with or developing allergies, asthma and learning difficulties.
  • I know that parents are unwillingly lathering their babies in toxic products that are affecting their health.
  • I know that women of colour have a higher risk of cancer.
  • I know that applying products on our bodies day after day has a build up affect of toxins in our bodies.
  • I know that people are dying way too young.
  • I know that there hasn’t been an update governing the personal care industry laws since 1938.
  • I know that the US only bans 30 ingredients in personal care products and the EU bans 1400.
  • I know that over 80 000 chemicals have been introduced into products in the United States and only 10% have been tested for human health safety.
  • I know that I care about my children and will do anything to protect them.
  • I know that we shouldn’t have to risk our health in the name of beauty.

I’m not here to say that changing to clean skincare is going to solve all your health conditions and I’m not here to try and scare you. Beautycounter is leading a movement to change the world and educate about reducing toxins in our everyday environment in as many ways as possible.

Don’t be one of those people who say…

Oh well, my grandma used toxic products and lived till 100.”

“Well, we’ve gotta die of something!”

“Ummmmm, I’m pretty sure the government wouldn’t let us use products that aren’t safe for us.”

You’re missing the point.

Some people who smoke live long lives too. You might think it’s all a joke until something happens to you or someone you love. Hearing so many stories and seeing women this past weekend fighting for their lives who have joined Beautycounter to spread the message of safer beauty was the most inspiring experience to be a part of and made me realize I was in the right job.

Being part of this movement is not about annoying your friends to buy products or join your team. It’s so much bigger than that. Our first pillar is about education. Who wouldn’t want to tell the people they love this information?

What other job is there in the world where you can make a significant income while simultaneously make a significant social impact?

I’m so incredibly proud of the work we are doing and we are only just getting started. You might think it’s not for you but I challenge you to think again.

Maybe you think to yourself “Oh, I’m not a salesperson.”

Well, that’s lucky because neither am I. I used to be a school teacher. But what I found is that when I lead with education, people choose to buy safer products. As long as I’ve armed people with the information to read labels, and use third party tools to examine the products they use (for example the EWG) they can make their own choices. When you lead with your why, and with the intention of helping people, that’s all that matters.

People don’t know what they don’t know. But once you know, you can’t unknow.

So, if you are someone who…

  • Wants to work on their own terms
  • Have time and financial freedom
  • Spend more time at home with your family
  • Wants to do something significant
  • Be inspired and grow every day
  • Do something that you LOVE…

Then I’d love you to watch this video and then click on this link so I can give you more information.

Or, if you already know someone who is a consultant with Beautycounter and maybe you’re their client, or they’ve asked you before if you’d be open to learning more about the opportunity, be open to it. It doesn’t hurt to arm yourself with the information to see what it’s all about right?

  • Imagine how it would feel to be part of a community of like-minded women (and now some men!) who’s lives have been changed.
  • Imagine being about to work a job you LOVED that felt fulfilling in the hours that suited you.
  • Imagine having the ability to pursue your dreams.
  • Imagine being able to make an income that matches and then overtakes your current income allowing you to get out of the 9-5 rat race.
  • Imagine having the flexibility to travel and afford amazing vacations with your family.
  • Imagine not having to feel stuck.
  • Imagine being happy.

Don’t look back in 5 years and think ‘I wish I had given it a go’.

Our consultants are teachers, lawyers, doctors, nurses, therapists, stay at home mums, fitness instructors, make up artists, hairdressers, estheticians and many other busy professionals.

Why can’t it be you too?
