Make Your Home Smell Amazing … Without All the Toxins
I love my home to smell amazing but gone are the days of burning toxic candles. Scented candles may have lead or lead cores in the wick, which releases dangerous amounts of lead into your home through the candle soot. Two particularly toxic chemicals, benzene and toluene, are found in the sooty residue from burning candles. Benzene is cancer-causing and toluene affects the central nervous system.
Candles can emit so much fragrance that they can trigger asthma attacks and even migraines. The word ‘fragrance’ is a loop hole in the industry where they don’t have to disclose what ingredients make up the word ‘fragrance’ (including formaldehyde!). For a person who lights a candle every day for years or just uses them frequently, inhalation of these dangerous pollutants drifting in the air could contribute to the development of health risks like cancer, common allergies and even asthma.
It may be shocking to think that your favorite candles could potentially be bad for you, and made worse by added fragrances. For some people, the effects are immediate, acute and severe, while others may not realize they are being effected until they gradually develop health issues.
And I shouldn’t have to tell you to stay away from air fresheners with the fragrance just sitting there …permeating surfaces in the room. Yuck!
So what can you use instead?
I love fresh flowers.
I also LOVE these gorgeous wall hangings to display my flowers from EcoDeer on Etsy. Nothing beats the smell of fresh flowers!
I also diffuse essential oils.
There are some amazing essential oils that smell so delicious. Lately I’ve been diffusing ‘Joy’ from Young Living. It’s a blend of Young Living’s most inviting oils and when diffused it gives your home a pleasant, joyful aroma! It includes Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Jasmine, Palmarosa, and Rose essential oil with notes of citrus from the essential oils of Bergamot, Lemon and Tangerine!
