The Importance of Safer Beauty

by | Dec 12, 2017 | Non-Toxic Living

Beautycounter’s mission is to

get safer products into the hands of everyone.

We should not have to compromise our health in the name of beauty.

Did you know?

  • The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.
  • There are more than 80 000 chemicals on the market today and many don’t have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry.
  • Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it’s in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home.
  • Beautycounter is a B corp (a company with a social mission). They use their business platform to solve social and environmental problems. There are only around 1900 B corporations from 29 countries in the world and Beautycounter is proud to be one of them!!! Other B Corps include Patagonia, TOMS, and Ben and Jerry’s.

Beautycounter has committed to a health and safety standard that goes well beyond what is legally required in the United States. They have created The Never List™ which is made up of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals that they never use as ingredients in their products. This includes the over 1,400 chemicals banned or restricted in personal care products by the European Union, plus additional chemicals screened by Beautycounter and found to be of concern.

When I discovered Beautycounter, not only was I instantly obsessed with the products, it was also at a time in my life when I was looking for purpose and financial freedom. I was pregnant with my youngest and the thought of going back to a teaching role after she was born was not an option. While I loved teaching, I couldn’t imagine going back to a job that was so time consuming, inflexible, and with a limited pay structure. I wanted to stay home with my children and work my own hours. I also wanted to contribute financially to my family. But I needed real purpose in my life. I didn’t want to just sell an eye cream. I wanted to educate the people in my life about toxins in the environment. Beautycounter has offered me the opportunity to make an amazing income, while being part of major social change. We’re more than just safe, beautiful cosmetics…we’re a group that educates friends and family. We’re fighting everyday for stricter regulation in the hopes of change.

We’re making money and making a difference!!!
